There are 3 general type of fur coats that Maltipoos will have – thick and curly, soft and silky or wiry and wavy. It really depends on the genes inherited from the parents. A Maltipoo’s looks may vary as well. It may look like a poodle, a maltese or a combination.

Living needs

Maltipoos adapt well to apartment living. They are too small and delicate to live outdoors. Additionally, they are considered as companion dogs and are excellent around children. Due to the pent-up energy, it is preferably good for them to have a 1o to 15 minutes of exercise a day. This can be in the form of a short walk or a game of fetching.

They are considered a low shedder, and some may even consider them as hypoallergenic. Maltipoos require frequent brushing of their coat, and occasional trimming of their nails. They are neither smelly nor drool, and need to bath at least once a month.

Maltipoos have a lifespan of 10 to 13 years. They are healthy in general.

However, similar to other breeds in the small dog category, they may have the following: White shaker syndrome, Leg-Calve-Perthes disease, Epilepsy, Patellar Luxation, Portosystemic Shunt, Progressive Retinal Atrophy.

Maltipoos are easy to train due to their high intelligence. This is especially true with positive reinforcement, meaning to reward with the correct actions.
